Flute Summer Course 2012

Wil Offermans
The 21st international Flute Summer Course by Dutch flutist-composer Wil Offermans will be held from August 18th until 25th, 2012 in Sayalonga (Malaga), Spain. In this wonderful and inspiring ambiance and a climate of dynamic nature and cultural inspiration Offermans conducts the course, sharing his contemporary approach on flute playing with the participants, who can be either new or already experienced in this field. Topics studied include a.o.:
  • Extended studies can develop our breathing and sound. Techniques like bamboo tones, harmonics, circular breathing, multi-phonics and whisper tones will be studied. Comprehensive information on these techniques can be found here: For the Contemporary Flutist Online.
  • Body movement and sound control
  • Improvisation in performance and education
  • Ensemble pieces introducing bass & contrabass flute
  • Ethnic flute evening
Flute Summer Course 2011 photo overview
The course is open for flute students, flutists and flute teachers, and a perfect way to get introduced to contemporary flute playing or to further extend your views and possibilities. Main literature will be the etude book For the Contemporary Flutist by Wil Offermans (published by Musikverlag Zimmermann, Germany; Zenon, Japan; and SeJong Publishers, Korea; awarded by the National Flute Association, USA). For additional literature see the list of compositions by Offermans. First language of the course is English (besides, Wil Offermans also speaks Dutch and some German, Spanish, French and Japanese). The maximum number of participants is 18. The course is organised by Studio E Music Creation .

All lessons will be held in groups (see the schedule below). Besides every participant will get a private lesson to further work on some technique or piece. Daily, there is a lunch and 'siesta' break from 14:00 - 17:00 and beside the meals some drinks and snack are served in between. Dinner will be after the classes. In the free time you can either study the flute or enjoy the private swimming pool, visit the beach or make a walk in the mountains or between the fruit trees.

Location

The course will be held in a renovated antique olive-mill, beautifully located in a quiet valley of Axarquía, near the village of Sayalonga, 8 kilometers away from the Mediterranean and 40 kilometers from Malaga. The house has comfortable double rooms (single room possible on request). Our cooks will serve you the most delicious food (vegetarian food on request). Sayalonga can be reached by car or bus. When traveling by air, it is advised to fly to Malaga International Airport. From there the organization can assist you with local transport.

Registration

The total registration fee is 495 euro and includes all lessons, all the meals and lodging in a standard double room. There is also the possibility to reserve a single room instead of sharing a double room for an additional cost of 125 euro (these are the same rooms, but then occupied by one person). The total amount should be paid in two parts:
  1. a non-refundable advance payment of 95 euro should be paid immediately after your registration has been accepted.
  2. the rest of the fee should be paid at the latest before August 4th 2012.
