Flute Summer Course 2019
The 28th international Flute Summer Course 'For the Contemporary Flutist' by Dutch flutist-composer Wil Offermans will be held from July 20th until 27th, 2019 in Sayalonga (Malaga), Spain. In an inspiring Andalusian ambiance, Wil Offermans conducts the course, sharing his contemporary approach on flute playing and promoting the extended flute techniques as a tool for deepening our flute playing and flute teaching.
The course is open for advanced flute students, flutists and flute teachers and is a great way to get introduced to contemporary flute playing and extended techniques, as well as to further extend your performing and teaching possibilities. With the focus of this course being mainly on the 'modern' techniques, the final musical aim includes a general flexibility, creativity and development of the breathing, the sound and the body.
First language of the course is English (besides, Wil Offermans also speaks Dutch and some German, Spanish, French and Japanese). The course is organised by Studio E Music Creation. The total registration fee is € 675. But you can enjoy an 'early birds' discounted fee of only € 575, now until April 30st 2019.

For the Contemporary Flutist
Main subjects of the course:
- Extended techniques for performance, study and education. How techniques like bamboo tones, harmonics, circular breathing, multi-phonics and whisper tones can develop our breathing and sound. These techniques will be studied with the etude book For the Contemporary Flutist by Wil Offermans.
- Body movement and sound control
- Ensemble pieces introducing bass & contrabass flute
- Flute solo compositions by Wil Offermans, like Honami, Tsuru-no-Sugomori, Made in Japan and Luna y Sierra.
- Improvisation in performance and education
- Ethnic flutes

Program
Besides the group lessons every participant will also have a master class to further work on a specific technique or piece. Daily, there is a lunch and 'siesta' break from 14:00 - 17:30 and beside the meals some drinks and snack are served in between. Dinner will be after the classes. In the free time you can either study the flute or enjoy the private swimming pool, visit the typical white Andalusian village of Sayalonga or make a walk in the mountains. Location
The course will be held in a renovated farm-house with a splendid view over the village of Sayalonga, 8 kilometers away from the Mediterranean Sea and 40 kilometers from Malaga. The house has comfortable single rooms, all with free Wi-Fi internet. Our cook will serve you the most delicious food (vegetarian food on request). To reach the course, when traveling by air, it is advised to fly to Malaga International Airport. From there the organization can assist you with local transport.
